"Classic Country"
Steve has always had a fondness for classic country songs, and it shows in the way he does certain covers from the golden age of country. "I grew up part-time in Lake County, CA and we listened to KRAK out of Sacramento...great country station! I'd learn and sing along to all the classics, my favorites being Hank, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, Faron Young, Conway Twitty, Buck Owens...and later Dwight Yoakam...and even today I'll sing a few in my local, non-tribute shows. So much fun to play and sing these great songs, and for a brief moment get magically transported back to a simpler, more innocent time."
In 2017, Steve and the band were honored to be the evening entertainment for "The Silver Spur Awards" presented by The Reel Cowboys, and they played mostly country tunes, and a little rockabilly, and they were joined onstage by Kris Kristofferson and backed him for a few of his hits! Steve, the band, Kris, the crowd...everybody had a great time! Kris even signed one of Steve's guitars after the show! A very special moment!
Steve is currently doing a bit of market research and if it seems like it might be appreciated, he may even launch a classic country show in the near future! In the meantime, catch Steve at any one of his local, non-tribute shows and listen as he throws a few country classics into the mix...and maybe he'll bring the "Kristofferson" guitar to the gig!
